Lincoln Cathedral Choir - O Be Joyful in the Lord - Choral Music (2008)

The psalms, which have been used in worship for at least 2,500 years, express a vast range of human emotions and experiences and contain hymns, lamentations, songs of trust and thanksgiving, pilgrimage and wisdom. The beauty and spontaneity of their lyrics inspired the creation of some of the best choral works, a vivid selection of which is presented here, on the latest recording of the Lincoln Cathedral Choir. The psalms, sung to Anglican chant, accompanied by the endlessly colorful Willis Lincoln organ, give an idea of the cathedral's daily musical offering. Then the same lyrics are played in sets from different five centuries, from Palestrina to Jonathan Harvey.
