A seminal figure in the history of rock & roll, Buddy Knox was the first artist of the 1950s to write and perform his own number one hit song (“Party Doll”). Although he was the first Texas rockabilly artist to be awarded a gold record (before Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison), as well as one of the innovators of the southwestern style of rock & roll that became known as “Tex-Mex rockabilly”, his legacy remains largely overlooked today.

This release contains Buddy Knox’s two first and finest LPs, which were originally issued on the Roulette label: his eponymous debut album with The Rhythm Orchids, Buddy Knox (1957), and the follow-up co-led by the group’s bassist, Buddy Knox & Jimmy Bowen (1958). These two masterpieces were essential in the development of early rock & roll. They include such classic hits as “Party Doll”, “Hula Love” and “Rock Your Little Baby to Sleep”, among others. Both albums have been remastered and packaged together inthis very special collector’s edition, which also contains 7 bonus tracks, consisting of singles from that period which were not included on either album, such as “Swingin’ Daddy” (featuring Buddy Holly on lead guitar).
