The Australian pianist Tonya Lemoh makes her debut on Chandos with this recital of works by Joseph Marx. She has been described as a pianist of ‘virtuosity and sensitivity’ by the Danish Music Journal and Classical Music on the Web wrote, ‘Lemoh is totally in command and the music flows with great natural force. Very impressive’. Marx has been described as a ‘romantic impressionist’ and these piano works clearly demonstrate his late romantic style, reminiscent of Richard Strauss, Korngold and Reger. Four of the works, never published and existing only in manuscript form, are here recorded for the first time. A previous recording of the other six is no longer available – so this disc fills an important gap in the Marx discography.
