Message from Palestinian artists:
We, Palestinian artists, find it crucial in these times of despair, when our people in Gaza are facing the greatest tragedy, to keep voicing the uncompromising vision of freedom through the medium of music.
This project serves as a postcard from a future Palestine we aspire to.Our vision doesn’t arise from nowhere; it aims to reconnect with the cultural renaissance Palestine was developing before its course was disrupted.
This vision draws a bridge—linking that almost forgotten renaissance, bridging the gap of the past century, and facilitating a shift of mind towards a new era of self-realization. The compilation features electronic music created by Palestinian producers and vocalists in collaboration with both SWANA and international allies who share this vision. The artwork is inspired by a postcard we imagine receiving from a future Palestine in which Palestinians are thriving. The postcard itself depicts the four colors of the modern Palestinian flag. It features a Palestinian woman, dressed in a traditional Tatreez embroidered dress, surrounded by symbols that hold deep meaning for us.
Note from label baba:
We present this compilation as a united front under the Palestinian movement. We have curated special collaborations between Palestinian artists and their counterparts from various regions, as well as solo tracks including from artists Lebanon, Egypt, Europe, Ghana, Kurdistan, Syria, Iran, Armenia, Turkey, Ukraine and Tanzania. This diverse representation showcases a shared vision and collective strength. The theme of our compilation, "Letters to a Future Palestine," is a manifestation of a self-determined future where a free Palestine thrives. It is a powerful statement against the portrayal of oppression as the sole narrative. Through this project, we dream beyond the current reality and work towards making this vision our own reality.
Our mission is to elevate Palestinian voices, making them heard and seen in the West in a thriving light. We aim to provide visibility to these artists and their message of hope, resilience, and cultural pride. Included in this compilation is a heartfelt letter from Palestinian artists, expressing their sentiments during these challenging times. Their words are a testament to the enduring spirit and unyielding hope of a people striving for freedom and self-realization. We believe that this compilation is not just a collection of music, but a powerful message of unity, resilience, and hope. We are excited to share this journey with you and hope that you will join us in spreading the word about this significant release.
Thank you for your support and for helping us amplify these vital voices.
