David Newton Trio - Inspired (2005)

Described by John Dankworth as `a national treasure', pianist David Newton made his recording debut back in 1986 with the legendary clarinettist Buddy DeFranco. He is a sought-after accompanist and has worked with Stacey Kent for many years.

Over the last 15 years Newton has led a trio which at one moment is able to swing ferociously and the next can create music imbued with melancholia and depth of feeling. These abilities make this group unique and when you mix in the other crucial elements of empathy and, perhaps even telepathy, they add up to what really amounts to a phenomenon.

On `Inspired' the extraordinary trio made up of David Newton on piano, Matt Miles on bass and Steve Brown on drums performs a selection of classic jazz standards by Tadd Dameron, Herbie Hancock, Cole Porter, Herb Ellis and others plus one original.
