Duke Ellington conceived his "Sacred Concerts" between 1962 and 1973, and they resemble the composer's remarkable musical autobiography. Few jazz musicians were able to fill their music with such strong emotions as Ellington.
In Sacred Concerts, there are both happy moments and blows of fate. First of all, Ellington's unshakeable confidence in God makes Sacred Concerts a very personal creed.
Duke Ellington is considered one of the fathers of the sound of big bands and shaped this genre like no other: until today, jazz orchestras around the world are trying to imitate the so-called Ellington effect.
The Fette Hupe big band, long committed to the Ellington style, joined forces with the Junges Vokalensemble Hannover ensemble, which became the ideal partner for staging monumental "Sacred Concerts" with all their original power and expressiveness.
With this very rarely recorded cycle, Fette Hoop and the Junges Vokalensemble Hannover ensemble close an important gap in the repertoire.
