Creating music now from Boulder, Colorado after a solid stretch of years living and playing in Brooklyn, duo Aaron White and Sarah White, aka Earth to Aaron, has a new album to share. This album is a nice blend of the resilience that comes from living life, and the folk based sweetness that comes from a certain place of satisfaction.
The title track is about needing someone’s love and not taking “no” for an answer, “there’s no holding back, you’re all I have left, baby give me all of your love.” “Whiskey Road” starts off with a riff that sounds a little like the Dead doing “Me and My Uncle.” This song is more contemporary, though, than anything the Dead would do. The banjo is twinkling on this one.
“Tell Myself” is a bit of a lullaby, with gentle acoustic guitar and later a little shaker and a little banjo, and “I am ready to deal with this world.” On this song and the next, “Another Day,” Aaron’s vocals sound a bit like a James Taylor style folk song “There’s still time – I guess we’ll have to wait another time.”
“Like A Wheel” gives off a jam band tone again, but it’s not, it’s a folk song with that kind of guitar tome and beat set-up. “Like a wheel always on track, racing to make something.
This album sounds like 70s countrified Grateful Dead meets James Taylor in a contemporary indie folk studio. Quite likable. Strange Notion was produced by Greg Schochet; engineered by Kyle Donovan and recorded at Cinder Sound Studio, with Aaron White executive producer. It was mastered by Mark Fuller Mastering.
Musicians on the album are Aaron White on guitar, piano, banjo, and vocals; Sarah White on vocals; Greg Schochet on lead guitar; Curly Collins on upright bass; Todd Moore on drums and percussion.
