Steve Elcock was born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire in 1957 and obtained an A-Level in music and learned the violin up to grade 7. As a composer, he is self-taught, and began writing from around age fifteen, and has continued to do so ever since. Elcock trained as a teacher of French and once qualified he moved to France in 1981, where he worked in language services until his retirement in 2019. His music has now come to the attention of music lovers, conductors and reviewers, Elcock was only previously known to a small circle of friends and family until the release of his Third Symphony in September 2017. Almost immediately it was featured as ‘CD of the Week’ BBC Radio 3, Record Review – a rare feat for a mostly unknown composer. Steve Elcock has composed ten symphonies to date, five of which have been recorded. He has also written concertos, symphonic poems and chamber music.
