This is Irmão Victor's fourth studio album, produced by himself and following on from "Irmão Victor" (2014), "Passos Simples Para Transformar Gelatina em um Monstro" (2016), "Cronópio?" (2018) and "Mariposário" (2019). In each of them, a city is the backdrop and a different moment in the life of Marco, who feels he has built an authentic autobiographical line so far - and one that in a way also presents its own aesthetic evolution.
"My moves around the cities I've recorded in (Passo Fundo, Porto Alegre, Florianópolis, Toulouse (France) and São Paulo) serve as a kind of guiding thread that gives meaning to these songs. My intimacy with them doesn't allow me to observe them more objectively than I would a personal diary," he says.
What's interesting is that over the course of these releases, Marco has learned a few things about the equipment, instruments and recording and mixing techniques as he's made the albums. "As I didn't throw practically anything away, my very first attempts at recording were already on the first album, made at the same time as I was discovering the most basic concepts of recording and mixing," he reveals. "So first and foremost there's a process of debugging from a very rough sound to a (hopefully) not so rough sound."
The "roughness" Marco mentions is actually more like experimentation. Irmão Victor's creative identity is complex, difficult to label, and is what stands out at the same time, backfiring as a sound that is fun to listen to and speculate on. "Micro-usina" is full of these moments and Marco himself reflects more on this.
"I think I end up proposing a certain way of looking at music itself, in the sense of recording everything at home the way you want to, making as few concessions as possible," ponders Marco, who seems to have found the most efficient path of all: the one that never ends and always gives you pleasure in continuing to build. What's more, making a sound for yourself, knowing how powerful it is among those who listen to you. A veritable "Micro-usina" of different ideas that everyone is invited to get to know: just play it here.
