Swedish singer-songwriter de clair hails from the serene countryside town of Karlshamn. Picking up the guitar at the age of ten and exploring the depths of her family's untuned, black grand piano, she found herself immersed in catalogs from Nico, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Björk. In them, de clair found inspiration that would shape her songwriting - minimalist indie/folk that delves into transparent and sometimes provocative themes of injustices, friendships, memories and love stories.
Reflecting on life's significant questions and depicting a young person's coming of age in today's society, de clair’s 2024 debut EP ‘hiding mountains in the palm of my hand’ received critical acclaim from NPR Tiny Desk founder Bob Boilen, Lablogotheque, COLORS*STUDIOS, The Line of Best Fit and NME.
“This record means so much to me and has become like a fragment of an important era in my life, the one where I went from living in a small town to moving to the city. It is like a journey through time and space. Being young can be difficult and I think that is universal. Or it's probably always difficult, life itself. But when you're young, you often don't have the same experience-based protection against adversity as you do when you're older, because everything happens for the first time. But that's how life often is, that we think we know what we're doing, to only understand that later.”
