Richard Clayderman is often referred to as the world's most famous pianist. His name is associated with one of the most popular songs in the piano world, Ballade pour Adeline, which has sold more than 22 million copies worldwide.
The artist, also nicknamed the Prince of Romanticism, became known to the public in 1976, when Olivier Toussaint and Paul de Senneville were looking for a pianist to play the composition that Paul had written for the birth of his daughter Adeline.
The pianist had a brilliant career after Ballade pour Adeline: he recorded more than 1,300 songs, obtained several gold and platinum records and gave more than 2,500 concerts. With his songs, he practically created a new, romantic style.
Of course, his success is not due to chance. He was already a real virtuoso as a child, he inherited his talent from his father, who worked as a piano teacher. He entered the conservatory at the age of 12, and at the age of 16 he received his first music prize. Although everyone considered him a genius as a child, he finally became famous until he was 23 years old. From there, there was no stopping: he released his first record and traveled around the world with it.
The French pianist married Francoise Lomand in 1976, with whom they had two daughters together. In 2010, he married Typhaine Pagès, with whom they no longer had any children.
Richard Clayderman has been nominated for numerous awards throughout his career. He won the Bravo Otto Award for Best Instrumental Performance in 1984 and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Performance in 1985. UNESCO also awarded him a gold medal in 2010. Despite his 70-year-old age, the pianist is extremely active, a new single was released in 2021, and several performances are already scheduled for 2024 from Vienna to the United States.
