Music is related to space in many ways. Some pieces are created with specific rooms or instruments in mind, others "grow out" of the places where they were created. The works immortalized on the album by Piotr Hausenplas and Ewa Skardowska are connected not only by their sonata form or kinship with various shades of the neoclassical style, but also - or perhaps above all? – connection with the city. Paris belongs to a small group of metropolises that have inspired the greatest number of compositions in the history of music. It is in this pool that we find sonatas for cello and piano by Francis Poulenc (1948), Szymon Laks (1932) and Bohuslav Martinů (1952).

The recording made by Piotr Hausenplas and Ewa Skardowska is definitely more than a phonographic recording of three sonatas for cello and piano outside the strict canon of the repertoire: it is a fascinating journey through impressionistic soundscapes, through winding neoclassical paths, through Parisian passages.
