Defenestrator is a bluesy, chickin' pickin', rock-jazz amalgam from Fender guitar artist/clinician Greg Koch. This earthy endeavor of seven instrumentals and four vocal tunes goes beyond the typical guitar recording with it's unique stylistic blend and lack of pretension.
"Sign Him" Department: At the other end of the guitar spectrum, Milwaukee's Greg Koch plays all those note that Resnick omits, but-amazingly- sounds just as pithy and direct. His playing blends Gatton, Duke Levine, Hendrix and more. "Chief's Blues" is pure alley cat snarl, while "Absinthe" is deep gypsy soul. All this by saying Defenestrator is a unique postmodern meeting of blues, funk, jazz, rock and country. Not a guitar-playing showcase, this is imaginative, original and awe-inspiring music. -- "Blues Revue" issue No.49 July/August 1999 Blue Bites
With Defenestrator, guitarist extraordinaire and Fender clinician Greg Koch has dropped another platter of soulful six-string pyrotechnics on the heads of a grateful audience. On these 11 mostly instrumental tracks, Greg ranges across many genres and styles, giving a distinct tone nod to Jeff Beck in many places, including the title track. On other tracks, like "Fall From Grace," Koch demonstrates considerable rock-pop songwriting skill, crafting hummable tunes spiced with electrifying solo breaks. Though you may not hear this baby plastered all over the FM radio, lovers of guitar should look and listen for Greg and his band on the road ( or at one of his many clinics) and dig one of the finest players in the country. -- Fender Frontline, Volume 26 July-December 1999
