After two successful releases, Dutch roots band Supersonics releases their new album with 'Bird On A Wire'. Traditionally, 'Bird On A Wire' contains only original songs that flowed from the pen of singer and guitarist Pascal Snijders, after which the group members took care of the arrangements together.

A number of songs were already ready, until corona threw a spanner in the works. Although..... the lockdown also offered Pascal more time to expand the Supersonics repertoire. For instance, the song 'The Great Alone' is open to interpretation and you can actually link it to the lockdown. In addition, Pascal drew on his own experiences for the lyrics, making songs like 'Tangled Up', 'Closer To The Fire', 'Everybody Loves AWinner', 'Methamphetamines', 'One Day At A Time' and even the title track quite autobiographical.

As we have come to expect from this band, various roots styles, such as country, blues and that cleverly typical Supersonics rock 'n' roll, come into play. With 'Billy's Lament', the band even pays tribute to western music, as often heard in western films. It is an epic tale of an 'outlaw gunman' in the Wild West who enlists the help of his father one last time to turn his life around and move to Mexico. 'Truth Or Consequenses' also belongs to that kind of song. That the band is also open to new techniques is proven by the use of samples, such as a bird chirping in 'Bird On A Wire' and an old-fashioned ringing cash register in 'Not About The Money'.

Much of the recording happened in Pascal's home studio. Drums and bass were canned at Studio Maasland in Born. There, under his supervision, mixing and mastering continued as well. This resulted in a cleverly produced full sound. There are also slightly more keyboards on this album. These come from Jeroen and this on Hammond, piano and Hohner Pianet. Together with Pascal, he is also responsible for vocal harmony. Haico Comans plays the pedal steel on three songs.
