Young Canadian Eamon McGrath seamlessly weaves multicoloured threads of punk, folk and country together in this, his third album. Sometimes slow and measured, sometimes upbeat and faster paced, he is a musician at a musical crossroads with the talent to choose one of several roads or even have a foot upon each path.
He plays all the instruments bar the drums, writes all of the songs and presents as a musician/singer/songwriter beyond his tender 23 years. The vocals seem effortless, with the intonation and feeling of one twice his age. There are acoustic pieces and jangling electric guitars, tender, sweet songs and foot tapping, wild rhythms. As each track starts, you are compelled to climb aboard a roller coaster of mood and style, intimacy and distance, tenderness and untamed passion. One minute he is sitting next to you, singing sweetly in your ear and the next he is sweating it out on a vast stage with an audience of thousands. Predictable he is not and therefore somewhat difficult to categorise But if you imagine a cocktail of one part Young, a dash of Cohen and finished with a frosting of Ramones, you may have just savoured a flavour of what this album promises. Set them up barman!
