This 1961 installment of R&B Spotlight sees the genre continuing to boom, with many of the entries also crossing over to the pop charts. Established hitmakers include Ike & Tina Turner, Chubby Checker, the Coasters and Hank Ballard & the Midnighters, while there is a strong New Orleans contingent, including Chris Kenner, Lee Dorsey, Clarence "Frogman" Henry and Ernie K-Doe. In 1961 you can do the Pony, the Watusi and the Continental, while the Twist remains all the rage.
