Thinking of Blue Almonds pt.1 is the debut album by Oxford based cellist and composer Lou Lyne with her ensemble The Blue Almond Project, due for release in March 2024. Lou has worked with big name artists such as St Etienne, Nick Cope and Pete Gow and is a longtime member of cult Arabic jazz ensemble Brickwork Lizards.
Lou's music certainly has a range of influences and inspirations with echoes of luminaries such as Debussy and Kronos Quartet. When asked about her muses, Lou says, "I really don't deliberately draw from a particular style of music, I just compose straight from the heart, but once a piece is written I can hear the sounds of composers and music I love coming through. I love listening to a whole range of music, from Arabic to highlife, New Orleans jazz, 70's funk, and folk music."
Having launched this new chapter in her career with a buzzing concert at the prestigious Oxford music venue The Holywell Music Room and having received airtime on the BBC Radio 3 show The Sleeping Forecast, Lou's star is already proving to be quick in the ascendance.
