In spite of his past as an excellent jazz guitarist and an equally excellent tribute to Bob Dylan released on CD with Laura Willeit, Hubert Dorigatti’s musical career has taken a complete different path when the guitarist and singer from Brunico, a town in the Italian Dolomites, has decided to focus on an innovative kind of blues that is worthy of comparison with the best American bluesmen. Still, he’s always kept his music firmly rooted in the blues tradition, which he’s proven to know inside out.
Hubert Dorigatti’s latest endeavor is an EP entirely recorded in Nashville, as it is custom among those who do not want to leave anything to chance. Nashville is the city of recording studios, and it is home to talented and skilled session men. Hubert Dorigatti has a special gift for writing, playing, and singing the blues like an American. “The Nashville Session” (2023) was recorded in mid October at the Blackbird Studio and it features five tracks in which the music was composed by Hubert Dorigatti, while the lyrics were penned by Zach Allen, who also produced the album.
Zach Allen has a huge experience in the field, having worked with the likes of older-generation bluesmen Buddy Guy and Taj Mahal, mid-generation artist Keb Mo’, and Kingfish Ingram, who many indicate as the future of blues music.
The musicians involved in the making of this album can all boast impressive resumés: Anton Nesbitt plays the bass, Marcus Finnie the drums, Rob McNelley and Kenny Greenberg join Hubert with their guitars, and veteran Mike Rojas rounds up the sound with his Hammond B-3.
