The Clara Haskil Competition was founded in 1963 in order to honor and perpetuate the memory of the incomparable Swiss pianist of Romanian origin. It takes place every two years in Vevey, where Clara Haskil lived from 1942 until her death in 1960. The competition is held over the course of two weeks and is divided into four rounds: preliminaries, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals with orchestra. The candidates must perform all works from memory.
Young French pianist Delphine Bardin was the winner of the Prix Clara Haskil at the competition in 1997. Her elegant and exciting performances overwhelmed the jury. This compact disc is a live recording of her performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17 in G Major, KV 453 at the final concert, where she was accompanied by the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne under the direction of Jesus Lopez Cobos.
The disc is rounded off with her performances of Mozart’s Piano Sonata in E-flat Major, KV 282 and Schumann’s wonderful «Waldszenen, Op. 82».
