"You Don’t Know What Love Is" also marks the first collaboration of one the world’s great Jazz families. Marlon is joined here by patriarch Kidd Jordan, saxophonist and Southern University Jazz Director; sister Stephanie, winner of the "Billie Holliday Competition" for Jazz vocals; sister Rachel, violinist with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra; and three-album Columbia recording artist and internationally touted flautist, brother Kent Jordan.
Marlon Jordan was only 17 when he became the youngest New Orleans band leader to ever sign with a major label, joining Wynton, Branford and Delfeayo Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Donald Harrison, Kent Jordan, and, yes, Harry Connick Jr. (his senior) on the powerhouse Dr. George Butler Columbia Jazz roster. Jordan’s first Columbia venture was opening for Miles Davis in Japan. Later he starred in George Wein’s brilliantly-conceived supergroup of "Young Lions," which included Roy Hargrove and Mark Whitfield, touring virtually every major Jazz festival and outdoor shed in the U.S.
Young Lion, dazzling trumpeter Marlon Jordan, returns to national prominence, once again, with the release of his long anticipated fifth recording, following years of touring, three albums with Columbia Records, one on Arabesque and a lengthy Brazilian odyssey. "You Don't Know What Love Is" - featuring Marlon's Miles Davis-comes-to-New Orleans mutings and the silvery vocals of sister Stephanie Jordan over lush strings - is a masterpiece of classic Jazz!!
