Master percussionist Eli Keszler beautifully warps perceptions of space-time on his 2nd round of live recordings with LuckyMe® - RIYL Valentina Magaletti, Chris Corsano, Serpente, Michael Ranta
Weighing in at just shy of 100’ of music, the set is cleft between recordings made in Copenhagen and Tokyo to best represent Keszler’s naturally holistic, systematic approach to a hybrid set-up of drum-triggered electronics. Working at the fundamentals of meter, harmony and spatlisation within his time-based art, Keszler conveys deeply personalised perceptions of space-time as he appears to simultaneously unstitch and knit its fabric in real-time.
Taking an intuitive license from the free meters of jazz and classical music, and applying instinctive knowledge of electro-acoustic dynamism, the 20 pieces fluidly diffract a rhythmelodic cadence with careful consideration to harmonic overtones that utilise the recording space’s acoustics as vital variable in his mutably improvised formula.
By its nature, “improvised” music can go wherever the fuck the player wants: in Keszler’s hands it explores a filigree nuance of syncopation and depth perception, foregoing any notion of macho freakout or showmanship in favour of luring listeners into his certain state of mind, at once calm but urgent and exceedingly elegant in its naturalistic flux of insectoid wingbeat flutters that prompt chain reactions of resounding harmonic chaos and beguiling atmospheric physics.
