In relation to Bruckner's music, the name of conductor Carlo Maria Giulini is primarily associated with recordings of the last three symphonies, to which he paid great attention, especially at the end of his creative life. In his discography, there are a total of 18 recordings of symphonies from the seventh to the ninth - and this is quite a familiar picture for musicians who are considered to be the pillars of the conducting art of the twentieth century: they took on the difficult, most mature and transcendental compositions of composers, where their talent could be revealed to the greatest extent. Therefore, Giulini's appeal to the relatively unpopular Second Symphony looks rather unusual and strange: everyone knows his studio recording, which is absolutely exceptional in beauty and depth, made with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in 1974. And it seems no less unusual and strange that with such an understanding of this music, he never returned to it in the future. The distribution contains a concert recording of the same 1974, released by the pirate "club" label World Music Express. The quality of the soundtrack is quite mediocre, but this is more than outweighed by the level of performance and interpretation, as well as the fascinating nervous feeling of a "live" concert.
