I love how supportive this country is of artists, and I think that support is reflected in the success Canadian artists have on a global scale.
Growing up in Canada, my listening tastes always skewed local. I grew up listening to bands like The Barenaked Ladies , Our Lady Peace and Alanis Morrisette as well as many others. Jazz-wise, I was listening to Oscar Peterson, Barry Elmes, Mike Murley and many other great musicians.
Still residing in Canada, I’m blown away by the incredible quality of jazz music that is being produced in the country and I’m always thrilled to check out great new Canadian music.
I’m happy to present A Canadian Songbook – my reflection on the Canadian music scene and the wonderful composers within it. I hope you dig it!
