The new beautiful scenic video for Alex Homan‘s King’s Daughters was captured while journeying along the Connecticut River between Vermont and New Hampshire, and it offers a small but blissful view into Homan’s world. It’s taken from his album Ark Angel II, released late last year on the California Record label Sun Cru, who swear it’s his finest album to date – a declaration not to be made lightly when considering his prolific solo outputs alongside his side projects and collaborations.
After hearing the Wayseeker’s Hymn, the album opener, I was hooked, but don’t let that be your guide for what follows. His improvised style of playing can delight and surprise, and there’s a warm psychedelic glow to proceedings. It’s strange how music can convey a sentiment, and Ark Angel II mysteriously feels very genuine, humble and welcoming – as if Homan has given you his trust. His experimental freeform guitar flourishes guide the listener on a meandering walk…warbling tapes, glitchy sounds and occasional cacophonous outbursts all serve to remind you that it’s sometimes necessary to get intentionally lost in order to truly appreciate freedom. It’s liberating music.
