English band, which in the seventies was the most popular representative of the new wave, and in the eighties increasingly popular MOR.
Members: John Foxx vocals, Billy Currie keyboards, Chris Cross bass guitar, Stevie Shears guitar, Warren Cann drums. The band was founded by Foxx, who soon left his bandmates after musical differences. He was replaced by Midge Ure.
They were initially popular in London club circles. Their success streak began in 1981, after the band stabilized in the line-up of Cross, Currie, Ure, Cann. Between 1981 and 1984 they had dozens of Top 20 hits: Vienna, All Stood Still, The Thin Wall, The Voice (1981), Reap The Wild Wind, Hymn (1982), Visions In Blue, We Came To Dance ( 1983), Dancing With Tears In My Eyes, Love's Great Adventure (1984).
On their recordings, they play a more demanding version of synth-pop.
