Probably the best Brazil project in the world! Featuring an all-star line-up of the label’s closest friends, (as well as some new faces) Friends From Rio is a fresh take on our original idea of recording tunes from Brazil for the dance floors of London.
It was one of the first projects the label endeavoured upon way back in 1994 and after 20 years, Far Out is back with this new release of varied, yet consistently danceable bossa grooves, Brazil funk and scorching batucadas. It’s just the kind of music that has defined the label over its two-decade history, which makes it the perfect way to mark 20 years of Far Out Recordings!
In keeping with the very ethos of Far Out, The Friends From Rio Project cements the bonds originally welded by a young Joe Davis, when he set off to Rio, in search of the mysterious sounds of Brazil. Coming from the heart and soul of Rio de Janeiro, the album features some of the most accomplished legends of Rio’s musical underground, including Alex Malheiros, Hyldon, Aleh, Robertinho Silva, Sabrina Malheiros and a host of other Far Out favourites.

Friends from Rio - Friends from Rio, Vol. 2 FLAC
The second instalment picks up where the first left off. A presentation of the best of the musical creativity currently circulating the Rio scene. The line-up is a credit to both the old and the new with a mix of established well known artists such as Dom Um Romao and Celia Vaz, cocktailed with exciting new fresh talent in the likes of Aricia Mess and Nair representing the Rio new school with style.
The musical content goes deeper into the roots of Brazilian music, pushing back the boundaries of the Brazilian “Samba Jazz” fusing it with the late 90’s London production skills of Roc Hunter and Joe Davis. Outworked through a mix of classic compositions like Escravos de Jo and Cravo E Canela, plus brand new Afro inspired tracks Super Legal and Bengele. The whole project draws on influences from the African rhythms of Bahia and Northern Brazil through to the Bossa sound of Rio and the many samba styles of the legendary Brazilian carnivals.
