Welsh alt-rock band The Joy Formidable announced via their Facebook on Friday, that they will be releasing some new material this coming Monday with a new EP, Sleep Is Day. The EP is the second release of recorded material that the trio will have released in 2016, following their full-length album Hitch, which was released back in March.
On Friday early afternoon, the band posted the artwork of the soon-to-be-released EP on their social media outlet, in addition to the copy:
“Alright everyone! NEW MUSIC alert. On Monday, we’ll release our new EP “Sleep is Day”. And to all our vinyl customers, you’ll get the EP for FREE as a thank you for your patience and support. (vinyl coming oh so soon now) Love to you all R&R&M X”
The announcement comes as somewhat of a surprise, as the band has been touring and promoting Hitch since its springtime release, and are set to head out on tour with fellow rock band KONGOS starting tomorrow (Sunday) in Santa Cruz, California. At least they’ll have some even newer music to now promote while on the road.
The trio, made up of Rhiannon “Ritzy” Bryan, Rhydian Dafydd Davies, and Matthew James Thomas, didn’t offer any clips, previews, or singles from the EP, but fans can only assume that these are songs that didn’t make the cut when finalizing the track listing for Hitch that are now finally seeing the light of day.
A doff of the old cap is also in order for the band releasing the album on a Monday, further proving that at the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter which day of the week an album is released on.
