It is not easy to interpret Tom Waits, and even harder to add something of your own. But that is exactly what Elin Ruth manages to do with "Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis. Even the flirtation with soul in "Christmas Is Sooner Than You Think", written by the musicians in the backing band The Beat From Palookaville, and John Prine's old "Christmas In Prison" are quite comfortable.
Elin Ruth's aim with the album was to do something different than the "mediocre and well-behaved" Christmas music that washes over us, and she manages with that. Swedish Christmas soul dressed in American 60's clothes have never sounded better than this.
