“Viola Chilena Actual” is the title of the work that the academic from the Department of Music publicly presented at the Pulsar 2023 Fair. The album, which contributes to expanding the repertoire for that instrument composed in Chile

A work of compilation, recording and dissemination of Chilean music is the album Viola chilena Actual, by the academic of the Department of Music (DMUS) and violist, Carola Fredes. The teacher sought to expand the repertoire of works for said instrument, recording it and disseminating it through the disk format.

Thus, Current Chilean Viola is made up of five works by composers in full creative force, which allows us to form a kind of panorama of creation for that instrument. The works included in the album are Miniatures (2022), by also DMUS academic, Jorge Pepi-Alos, Three Rains (2021) by Florencia Martínez, Conversations with Gabriel Brnêié (2022) by Cristián Morales, Capricho para viola solo (2019) by Jean Barahona and Tree (2022) by Roberta Lazo Valenzuela.

“With the exception of Capricho by Jean Barahona, composed in 2019, the remaining pieces were written expressly for this album at my request, with the intention of offering the public a sample of the country's compositional activity that reflects its diversity. Thus, works by emerging figures and others already consolidated are included, which explore the possibilities of the instrument from different approaches and compositional languages,” said Professor Fredes in the text that accompanies the album.

At the recording, Professor Fredes was accompanied by fellow DMUS academic, Jorge Pepi-Alos, on the piano. The album is a project financed by the National Music Promotion Fund, call 2022.
