La lumière du sud - the light of the south takes us deep into the soul of French music and portrays the search for light, color and sound in three great eras of French music: le Grand Siécle - the great age of baroque music at the court of Versailles. At its center are the composers Rameau, Lully and Couperin, but also the gambist Marin Marais, whose variation work Les folies d'Espagne we have recorded here. La Belle Époque - the great period of European art, the French Impressionists, their paintings and their music are unique and form our second stop. With works by Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré, we present two of the composers of this period and some of their most beautiful pieces such as Clair de Lune and Après un Rêve. And finally, with Mathias Duplessy, we present the music of an incredibly exciting and vibrant contemporary Parisian music scene on this album. Combined with the Capriccio à la lumière du sud by Tobias Kassung - a homage to the tango and the south.
