It all began with a timid little girl who sang because she wanted to and not because anyone was listening. Then at the age of ten Jenny Banai picked up her great grandfather’s violin, the strings of which would ring out once again after having fallen silent for so long. Since then she has never stopped playing or singing. Entering her twenties, she discovered within herself a pearl of poetry, a journey of honest liturgy. It became evident to her and those around her, that the songs she wrote were destined to be unveiled. Her creative approach preserves an intimate sound for her unconventional melodies, which are woven together with words of passion for life, love and the Author of both. If anyone wants to hear music like it is the first time again, or if anyone needs to be awakened somewhere deep inside, listen… for a haunting violin fading in from the distance--the tinkling of a banjo round a midnight flame--the strum of a guitar as it swells and stills like the waves of the sea. Her voice is radiant like the sun with the solace of a wind chime. Jenny’s voice is scarlet. flowering head. The collaborative life co-existing in this project from a wide spectrum of friends and family through variable space, makes it every bit valuable and beautiful. It is a gift inspired through deep connections and carried by encouragement, affirmation and love. The collection of willing and dear ones my heart and song invited in overwhelms me. I am a blessed human being. How much I have learned, been formed and released through risking the created to exist outside my lonely bedroom and space with God. The interwoven fabrics created to design flowering head are just as they are meant. The soft intimate lyrics and melodies and intricate happenings cloud this piece with fullness. I am discovering more in my heart through every moment it speaks, and I hope it will continue to openly speak. Jenny Banai recorded her debut album, flowering head, at the Space Studios in Vancouver BC, along side Artists and Producers, Jordan Klassen and Daniel Klenner. Although unique to her own, some have said her voice and melodies are likened to the melodic playful warmth of Folk singer-songwriter, Joni Mitchell, mixed with some soulful tresses of Folk-Pop Artist, Feist. Jordan and Daniel helped Jenny serve her songs well, bringing them to life with colourful arrangements, yet still preserving that intimate sound. Her songs tend to take listeners on a journey, delighting their ears with a fresh, yet vintage vibe, to unexpected places, surprising and yet compelling anticipation. Her voice, no doubt is her main force, however the mixture of voice and strings collectively, make her sound to be what it is. Dreamy yet vibrant, honest yet comforting, classic yet exploratory, flowering head is a delightful listen.
