Paderewski, who was active in the 19th and 20th centuries, inherited the typical Romantic tradition, but also drew inspiration from Polish folk dances and nostalgic melodies, creating original works. Although his Toccata ``In the Desert'' is rarely performed, it is a work that is comparable to Paderewski's other short pieces that are included in the repertoire of pianists around the world.
Chinese-born pianist Ying Han has been based in Poland in recent years, and in this album he brings out Paderewski's charm to the full with his light and free playing.
