I had the pleasure to meet Giuliano after a Melaine Dalibert concert in Paris. Actually, at the very same concert, I also met Lazlo Horvath (absolutely not related to my family, Horvath is one of the most common names in Hungary), with whom I will work quite a lot on many Naxos releases.
Giuliano was also invited by Melaine to his festival at the very same year, and we shared a party. I remember being extremely tired during it as I performed all the Philip Glass piano music in a row.
Talking with him was extremely interesting, and I loved his way of composing. Melaine was preparing an album of Giuliano music, and I loved it profoundly.
From there, we lost track. Life doing his job : we were both very busy. But I still had the scores he gave me in my archives as I really wanted to do something with it one day.
The day came when the first "draft" on this series emerged : for Naxos, I was preparing many (50?) singles to promote avant garde, and all my friends composers. And Giuliano was there, at last !
But the "Singles" project was cancelled thanks to the new Naxos marketing team who did not believe in it. Yes, thanks to them, as it really pushed me to create this label !
So Giuliano was supposed to get released in Season 1, and I have no clue why it is released only now !
My first thought was to record all his piano music, but when I started his Aria, I was so much in love with them, that I did 4 versions of each ! As the music is linked to chance operation and is so calm, zen and quiet.
I re-recorded Allegretto as I did not like my first recording. Yes, working on all the Arias really helped me to enter into such a special music. I really hope you will like this new release as well !
