“Music is the wine that fills the goblet of silence”: with these words, I opened a brief essay on my friendship with Gerardo Felisatti, included in a 2013 publication to celebrate the first 65 years of Carretta Wines. Since then, a decade has passed, and our family enterprise has reached its 75-year milestone.
This extensive history, marked by passion, growth, interactions, and personal connections more than professional ones, also encompasses the story of my collaboration with Gerardo, continuing through time. It’s a relationship grounded in our shared love for music and wine, serving as the backdrop to a quest for “something” that transcends clichés. A yearning to look beyond, with the sensitivity and attention devoted to the truly meaningful aspects of life.
I believe that this approach connects an artist like Gerardo Felisatti with many of the individuals I encounter daily in my vocation as a wine merchant. The producer who, in the 21st century, rediscovers ancient Roman amphora winemaking techniques. The family that has cultivated its vineyard in the heart of Champagne since 1552. The winemaker who, in an ancient picturesque village, creates Italy’s finest wine, with meticulous attention to the slightest climatic shifts. These are just a few of the stories that a glass of wine can narrate, enriching my conversations with Gerardo, complemented by his previews of the pieces composed recently, in a period so unique and consequential for all humanity.
In one of these meetings, the title “As It Is” was born, a phrase that, in its apparent simplicity, encompasses a world of meanings. Living in the present moment, relinquishing the desire to be what we are not, rediscovering the value of human relationships. This is, essentially, the essence of my bond with Gerardo and what we wish to convey, each in our respective fields, with this collaboration that has lasted over a decade and has achieved outstanding artistic results.
Over these years, Gerardo’s music, so pure and engaging, has been a source of inspiration for me. Indeed, wine is a prestigious product, and a company like Carretta Wines, which has distributed the finest Italian and European wines worldwide for 75 years, cannot disregard the logic and trends of the market. But what sets it apart and makes it appreciated, besides its historical relevance, reliability, and vitality, are independence, foresight, and the ability to present itself in an ever-original and innovative manner.
That is why my contribution to this new collection of pieces by Gerardo Felisatti, with the extraordinary participation of Luigi Puxeddu, goes beyond that of a traditional “sponsor” seeking visibility for its products, but rather is that of a friend who joins with enthusiasm, curiosity, and admiration on a new journey to explore together, through the boundless landscapes of music.
An adventure that will undoubtedly continue into the future, filling the “goblet of silence” with further resonances and harmonies of the soul.
