Tommy Kotter Unit - Joy (2005)

Pianist and composer/arranger Tommy Kotter has been an omnipresent, vital force on the modern Gothenburg jazz scene for the last 15 years. When the jazz association Jazz I Göteborg commissioned a larger work by Tommy, to be performed by an ensemble consisting of musicians of his own choice, we hoped he would come up with something that combined his unique skills as an unpredictable, yet totally committed pianist with the more disciplined structures required when writing for a larger ensemble. And to keep swingin’! The music was first performed in the summer of 2003 at the Nefertiti Jazz Club and also the year after at a sold-out concert at The Gothenburg Concert Hall. The commissioners were very, very pleased, and so were the audiences and critics. Now it’s out on CD for everyone to listen to. Enjoy!
