Coincidentally, this recording was recorded on August 19, 1991, the day the Soviet coup d'état broke out that shocked the world. Fedoseyev and the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra performed a soulful performance in a studio surrounded by tanks amid the screams of public anger. The recording was carried out under extreme conditions, and the director himself wrote the details in the commentary when it was first released, so the situation was widely known. When you listen to this high-quality reissue, even though 30 years have passed since then, it seems like an event that doesn't feel that far away, and even the tense atmosphere of the scene is vividly conveyed. It may be said that this is exactly the era in which Shostakovich lived. In a sense, it is difficult to overstate the strength of Shostakovich's will, as he spent most of his composing career under such conditions. The first and second movements were recorded on August 18th, and the third and fourth movements were recorded on the following day, the 19th. After the wonderful performance up to the third movement, it seemed that a coup d'état was brewing. Since then, the performance has been chaotic and it has been difficult to record good takes, but it has been reported that the performance has finally ended miraculously. Even though the song had been performed hundreds of times, it seems that the player's anxiety was reflected in the performance, but the performance was so miraculous that it was hard to believe that he was unable to concentrate. The soulful performance symbolized by this spectacular fourth movement touched the hearts of many. With this SACD version, the atmosphere of the scene is further conveyed. Furthermore, the subtitle of the songs in this album, "Kakumei", is almost never written these days, but since it was intentionally written in this album since its first release, we have kept it as is in this reissue.
