With impeccable instrumental technique, detailed interpretation and a lot of charisma, Duo Siqueira Lima enjoys rare success among guitarists of any era in Brazil. Both musicians come from families linked to music. Fernando Lima is from the interior of Minas Gerais, having learned to play the viola caipira and cavaquinho with his father. And it was with the viola that Fernando began his career as a child prodigy, appearing on television music programs in 1984. At the age of 12, he discovered the classical guitar listening to recordings by Dilermando Reis, and soon adopted it as his professional instrument. From 1999 onwards, he had Henrique Pinto as his main teacher. Before that, Fernando had studied with other teachers, including a stint at the Varginha Conservatory. He graduated in guitar from FAAM and Carlos Gomes colleges.
Cecília Siqueira was also a child prodigy. Her grandfather, uncles and parents were guitarists. Her father was also a direct disciple of Abel Carlevaro. She started playing music at the age of 6 and at the age of 9 she started playing the electric guitar at night dances, joining her family's group. The following year, he began to dedicate himself to classical guitar. At 15 years old, Cecília already won her first acting competition. Among the main teachers were the Uruguayan César Amaro (between 1997 and 1999, although he never charged financially for classes) and the Brazilian Henrique Pinto.
Fernando Lima and Cecília Siqueira met for the first time at the II Caxias do Sul International Guitar Competition, in July 2001, at Pró-Música SESC, when they shared first place in the competition. The event had guitarists from different parts of the world (Mexico, England, Paraguay, Turkey, Spain, United States and Austria) as contestants and jurors, which helped establish their names as top-notch soloists. Cecília released her first solo CD later that year, Lo Que Vendra, with a very varied repertoire, ranging from Bach to Barrios.
The following year, 2002, the two started dating and officially formed the duo, playing in cities in Uruguay and releasing their first CD independently, titled Tudo ConCorda. The repertoire was essentially popular, ranging from Pixinguinha to Scott Joplin. As the duo's repertoire was still in development, both decided to record solo works (two each), with Fernando playing two by Armando Neves and Cecília playing Luiz Bonfá and Roland Dyens. The release included, in addition to Brazil and Uruguay, three tours across Europe.
Along with the CD, the YouTube videos and the charismatic presentations began to spread their names to an audience from different countries. Soon they would begin an intense international career, in countries such as Uruguay, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Russia, Poland and Austria, among others.
In 2004 Cecília would definitively settle in São Paulo, with both of them already married and receiving guidance from professor Henrique Pinto. In 2006 they released their second CD, Lado a Lado, again independently. The repertoire, like that of the first CD, privileged Brazilian popular instrumental music, with authors ranging from Cesar Camargo Mariano (Cristal) to Dominguinhos (Contrato de Separação). The video on YouTube in which they both play as a duo with just one guitar has already surpassed three million views, and has led to them receiving proposals to perform at numerous music festivals and on television programs in which Brazilian instrumental music does not usually have space. . It was a success, now for a much larger audience than just classical music or MPB.
In 2007, they made their debut in Ireland, playing at the National Concert Hall. They then performed at the Cultural Arts Center, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Fernando Lima, who also played in the Quaternaglia Guitar Quartet, decided to abandon his first guitar in that quartet, to dedicate himself fully to the duo with his wife.
In 2010 they released the third CD of their career, Um a Um, on the Belgian label GHA Records. The release included the Paris International Guitar Festival and concert halls in the United States. The repertoire includes Brazilian popular instrumental music, with emphasis on Canhoto, by Radamés Gnattali, Homenagem a Chiquinho do Acordeão, by Dominguinhos, and Samambaia, by César Camargo Mariano, demonstrating once again the musical preferences of both.
In 2016, they released the highly praised CD The Art of Duo Siqueira Lima, made up of repertoire by great Brazilian classical composers (such as Villa-Lobos and Henrique Oswald), as well as Argentine Astor Piazzola and Spanish Granados. In 2019, another excellent album was produced: Impressions, made up of pieces by Debussy, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, among other European composers.
