As you remember, after leaving Capitol Records, the group returned from Detroit to their native Milwaukee, where they signed a contract with Age Of Aquarius Records. First (at the end of 1969), the musicians went to the local Dave Kennedy Studios, where they recorded the single “Sitting By The Sea” / “You Make Me Feel Good” for the new label (both of these compositions would later be included in “Get On Our Swing”) . In “Sitting By The Sea” the band, one might say, for the first time, allows itself to use minor tones, but this does not make it any worse, the song sounds sad and beautiful, and the horns are interesting. Well, the b-side “You Make Me Feel Good” is in the style of things from the old album (their vocalist’s habit of whistling, noticed earlier, even appeared here again).
Following the single (already in March 1970), a full-fledged album “Get On Our Swing” followed (here playing on the title of one of the compositions – “Get On My Swing”). In general, the songs from it, like “Sitting By The Sea”, will have a melancholic tint (with the exception of “Yes I Know” flavored with dirty guitar), due to which the album turned out to be more thoughtful or something (compared to the first) and sounds more complete. This is a mature piece of work. The musicians' playing is technical, it was recorded (in terms of sound) cleaner, and all the compositions were composed by the band members themselves (on the first album, as you remember, Coltrane was replayed). And in the design of the cover, the musicians abandoned the appearance of their own faces, and placed a picture with a certain bleeding bird.
The development of The Corporation will not stop there, and even moreover, their next work “Hassels In My Mind”, released in the same 1970, pleasantly surprises with sophisticated jazz-rock.
