Ponta Preta still has things to say. The group has not finished spoiling us with their music which is so intoxicating and deliberately retro, having allowed them to have very good press. After several years of waiting, they are back in great shape with their new album entitled Way Out West.

Very quickly, Ponta Preta wastes no time in offering a good dose of resolutely 60’s psychedelic pop tinged with surf and garage-pop. Opening with “Bring The Fun Back To Me”, the group is more harmonious than ever, just like on “Real Countdown” and “I've Been Lonely” which follow and which are enough to make Allah green with jealousy. Tired among others.

Sometimes bluesy ("Liquor Liquor" reminiscent of The Black Keys from the belle époque) sometimes surf ("Shakedown") or tropicalia ("Yojimbo"), this Way Out West succeeds in its mission when it comes to evoking nostalgia among his audience. It is with vocal harmonies and reverberated guitars that Ponta Preta continues to shine on “Yojimbo” and on “I’d Like To Know” before ending on a more contemplative note called “Pardon Me”.
