Beginning of the year 2023 has been busy. There is new solo album coming! It has took while to build but now Vainaan perua: Satavuotinen sakka start to be ready. There is music which was born during Emilia´s artistic research and doctoral studies. She has been finishing doctoral studies, writing thesis about how musician can use archive recordings and simultaneous dancing and playing as method to make new music. It has been long, interesting and different way.

”Plays like a village full of haunted fiddlers”, wrote the leading Finnish newspaper about Emilia Lajunen. Emilia Lajunen (born 1979) is a well known professional Finnish folk musician, known for her personal, strong, and modern style of playing the violin. Her style of playing claims its origins in archaic heritage and fiddler music. Lajunen initially studied folk music under the guidance of Ritva Talvitie and the legendary group Tallari. She furthered her studies at Sibelius Academy (MMus, 2007) and at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. From 2010 Lajunen has occupied the position of the Violin Techer-in-charge in the folk music department of Sibelius Academy. Lajunen’s instruments are the violin and the keyed fiddle. She is a member in such groups as Suo, Spontaani Vire, Juuri & Juuri, Duo Emilia Lajunen & Suvi Oskala, Ritva Nero. Her solo album, Turkoosi Polkupyörä, was released in 2012. Lajunen has succeeded in many solo competitions in folk music. She won 2th prize of solo class in NORD 08, Scandinavian Master Competition in 2008, in Sälen Sweden. She has won twice Konsta Jylhä -competition at first as a soloist in traditional serie on 2011 and on 2012 with Duo Emilia Lajunen & Suvi Oskala also in traditional serie. Besides of that she has been nominated Teosto prize on 2014 with Juuri & Juuri: Quiet Rapture & Fiddlers CD and with same duo they got Emma prize on 2014. Besides being a musician and working with several bands and musicians, she has worked also in theatre and dance productions and composed music fo puppet theatre shows like L.Optica, Sonata Solana (Dance), Puupoika (performed in Seurasaari during summers 2006-2008) and Mytty-iltamat (2018, 2019). At the moment Lajunen is working on her doctoral thesis that consists of five concerts, combining elements of dance and theatre to her own musicianship.
