The term 'Jamais Visto' ('never seen' in brazilian portuguese) is somewhat paradoxical in times when it seems like we've seen everything. Whether this 'everything' is good or, most of the time seemingly, bad. Still, it's a term that raises, in one way or another, curiosity, a questioning that at first seems trivial, until it becomes something profound. If we have never seen, then is there something to discover? What could it be? Perhaps it is an investigation where the results will differ for each person who embarks on this journey? Furthermore, a journey that perhaps never ends. Would its endpoint be the long-awaited 'never seen'?
Created in 2019, 'Leves Passos' is the project of musicians and composers Ayla Lemos and Felipe Couto, names that have diverse experiences in the music scene of Ceará, Brazil. Ayla Lemos, singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, has worked with a variety of artists, including Selvabeat, Fernando Catatau, Luiza Nobel, Adna Oliveira, Marta Aurélia, Clau Aniz, among others. Felipe, a multi-instrumentalist composer and producer, is one of the names behind the prestigious instrumental group Astronauta Marinho, one of the most important in the Ceará scene in the last decade. He has also worked alongside artists such as Vacilant, Maquinas, Fernando Catatau, Glamourings, Clau Aniz, and Arquelano.
It is the combination of these experiences that makes Leves Passos interesting: the result of artistic absorptions and inspirations from both artists' trajectories, generating music that can encompass various genres, from electronic to traditional Brazilian music, ranging from IDM, post-punk, to rock in its various forms.
The album's name, 'Jamais Visto,' is also inspired by the French term 'jamais vu,' which describes the sensation of something familiar that seems completely unknown. This feeling comes to life in new routines, in new ways of experiencing existence alongside uncertainty and absence. The album is an ode to the changes that surround us and the strangeness of feeling them.
The musical conception and creative process of the album were carried out remotely through digital interactions, such as WhatsApp audio messages, beats, sound synthesis, sample collages, and digital effects processing. These tools aesthetically shaped the poetic writing and sound of 'Jamais Visto'.
