Recorded at De Boerderij, Zoetermeer, on the Altitude tour, this performance features the whole of the Altitude album along with a selection of old favourites. Release date 3rd July 2023
Lifesigns' three contrasting, yet equally sublime, studio albums have set a high bar for 21st-century prog. But does the English band's involved and multilayered arrangements, entrancing melodies and top flight musicianship - all blessed with lush production - translate from the studio to the stage? The self-explanatory Live In The Netherlands proves that it does. And then some. There are so many great moments and stirring tunes here that it's hard to cherry-pick, but the jazz fusion-leaning intro of opener N, Dave Bainbridge's guitar soloing on Altitude and Last One Home, the achingly beautiful early sections of Ivory Tower, the power prog-pop of Impossible and Gregarious and the majesty of Fortitude all vie for attention. Topping everything off are the warm, masterful tones of bandleader John Young's splendid vocals and rich keyboards. An album for anyone with a penchant for prog's glorious past yet looking for something refreshingly modern. Exceptional stuff. --Prog Magazine
