fractus is a band that explores the nexus between jazz, classical music. Influenced by artists such as Ólafur Arnalds, Thomas Strønen & Quercus. fractus find uplifting highs and soft melancholic lows. Balancing lamenting melodies and bittersweet songwriting with collective improvisation and emotive harmony, this is music which can connect on both an intellectual and emotional level.
Composer Mark Hendry gained attention in 2018 after the release of his debut album Esperance when he was commissioned by the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival to write two 40 minute suites of orchestral jazz. The small orchestra with jazz ensemble comprised of some of Scotland’s best young jazz and classical players. Mark has gone on to compose for Brussels Jazz Festival as well as for film.
