Following their recent sold out national tour, Northern Beaches pop-rockers The Rions have returned with a new single, as well as the announcement of their debut EP of the same name, “Minivan”, which will be released August 11. Teasing the song while on the road, this track cements their already rapid growth as songwriters and musicians, and welcomes a new highlight in their live set.
Reflecting on the idea of chasing your dreams and jumping in a minivan and just going for it, there is a youthfulness as well as a freeing sentiment that is deeply rooted in this track. But while there is a freeing nature to the song, there is also a maturity attached which comes from their new experiences on the road. “Don’t care if our parents are worried, we’re on our own. Cause when they wake up in the morning, they won’t notice we’re gone” they sing.
Sonically reminiscent of Spacey Jane and 5 Seconds Of Summer, the production behind “Minivan” elevates the freeing and escapism emotions of the lyrics. It feels quite cinematically penned, and has a breezy element that immediately transports you to an open coastal road.
