For American tinted Roots music you can also contact the Spanish singer-songwriter Angela Voodoo. This artist from Malaga proves to be a versatile artist with her new album. And that is not really a surprise given her musical background, because she was a member of the blues rock band the Blue Bloody Blades, the punk band A.C.A.B.A.D.A.S. and the alternative metal band the Rebel Sound Project.
There is no trace of punk and metal on her new album. The blues do come by in the languidly shuffling Deep Blue Eyes with a bluesy piercing acoustic blues guitar.
Most of the songs on the album, which was produced by Pablo Fugitivo, are in a style related to that of, for example, Suzanne Vega, Sheryl Crow or Lucinda Williams. The gloomy Far Away is a fine example of this. A soft driving song with Scarler Ivera-esque fiddle and Angela's powerful warm voice. The warmly heaving Cloud is in the same musical corner.
A warm sliding jazz bass opens the smoky jazzy number Do The Voodoo, Hoodoo! A wonderfully lazy swinging song with sparkling jazzy guitar work. Some hillbilly influences cautiously appear in Home and Turtle Road Blues is a driving rockabilly song. Prophecy is then a powerful thumping song. The most beautiful song is the benevolently floating Storm.
A surprisingly tasty and above all versatile album by the Spanish singer-songwriter Angela Hoodoo.
