The world's first SACD version of Orff's triomphe trilogy, the masterpiece left by Herbert Kegel (July 29, 1920-November 20, 1990) in Eterna in the 1970s. Only "Carmina Burana" was recorded in stereo in Eterna in 1960 (reprinted as 0301289BC in April 2019 in this project), but the other two were the first recordings. Since its release, these sound sources are super-named records that have reigned as yokozuna in the former East, along with the DG Jochum board in the west at the time, and are highly regarded even today as representative recordings of Kegel. After the fierce performance of the old version, this version, which was re-recorded about 15 years later, is characterized by a larger scale and more mature expression, and in contrast to the global reputation of the Jochum version, it can be said that the recording was achieved by the musicians who had a sincere attitude towards local sounds and music at the time, and it was a recording that brought out all the strength of the former East Germany. The chorus, in particular, stands out for its high level of expression and expression, and these trilogy, in which the chorus plays an important role, are among the works that most demonstrate its power.
The famous "Carmina Burana" has many performance opportunities and many recordings, but the other two works have not changed much. Apart from vocals, ``Katuli Carmina'' is a special composition consisting of only 4 pianos and percussion instruments, so it can be said that it is a work that does not move your fingers. It will not be so realistic performance so far in terms of content. The realistic sound quality and sound of the time, and the feeling of air are demonstrated only with high sound quality. Brilliant is exactly what can be said about this reprint, and I am amazed at the radiance and freshness of its life energy.
~ For Kegel, "Carmina Burana" is his second recording. In the old record, the bizarre expression left a strong impression, but in this recording, the skillful handling of the chorus is astounding. The conductor's finely honed skill, which organizes each voice and creates a clear balance, shines. In the following two works, percussion instruments come to the fore, and the music becomes even bolder. The vivid rhythm unique to Kegel and the sharp narrative are overwhelming. This definitive performance was revived with high sound quality.
