Giampaolo Casati Trio - Novo (2010)

The rule of three, which we know is a "perfect number", can be said. But if the number seems perfect, almost magical, part of the credit also belongs to the fellow travelers chosen for this new adventure by a trumpeter who has lyricism, creative freshness and excellent technique. In this case, two outstanding musicians and at the same time old friends stimulate his imagination and efficiency. We are talking about the creative and effective piano of Marcello Tonolo, on the one hand, and the solid and deep double bass of Piero Leveretto, on the other. Both play their role as well as possible, giving the presenter three beautiful compositions. In this case, this is a significant step forward compared to the old record. Although the leadership of the group rightfully belongs to Giampaolo Casati, in fact we are dealing with an equal trio in which the roles are completely interchangeable and it is difficult to immediately recognize the role of the leader. This is another confirmation that interaction and harmony — teamwork, as they say in sports — always contribute to increasing the value of the project. It is worth clarifying that Marcello Tonolo's suggestive composition "The way I am" was performed several years ago by Rachel Gould in the album "No more fire" (Caligula 2062). Other works that are worth remembering — but really hard to choose among the nine magnificent pearls — are, of course, the lyrical Bellavista by Casati and the boppist Smart set by Leveratto.
