There are 26 pieces which form this production of Gregorian chants covering 20 centuries (divided into four sections), during which religious church communities celebrated Jesus of Nazareth. Although Gregorian chant reached its final form already in the 16th century, several interesting songs from a later date are included as well.
Performed by the Schola Cantorum Karolus Magnus. This all male Dutch choir from Nijmegen has, including conductor Stan Hollaardt, 14 members. Founded in 1988, this group regularly performs at home and abroad. They have recorded 4 earlier releases.
The Schola specializes in plain chant and is aiming to preserve authentic Gregorian chant. Thereby they mainly rely on Medieval sources, especially on the work done in the 19th century by the monks in Solemnes and later by their followers.
