In the fourth disc of its series on late twentieth-century repertoire by the Flemish ensemble I Fiamminghi, Telarc presents a world premiere recording of Creations by American composer John Corigliano.
The disc also includes performances of To Music which is an adaptation of the original composition for Double Brass Quintet; a setting of an English translation of Baudelaire’s poem, L’Invitation au Voyage, for flute and string orchestra; the Campane di Ravello, subtitled A Celebration Piece for Sir Georg Solti, written for the esteemed conductor’s seventy-fifth birthday and the beginning of Corigliano’s tenure as Composer-in-Residence for the Chicago Symphony; and Elegy for orchestra, which began as a trio for flute, clarinet and harp, but was expanded and orchestrated late in 1965. Also on the recording is the Promenade Overture, a whimsical work inspired by the Haydn Farewell Symphony.
