An emergency memorial project for Michel Corvo (1934.2.14-2021.9.2) who passed away in September 2021. Not only is it a representative recording of Corvo, but it is also the most famous of Fauré: Requiem's everlasting masterpieces. It is a high-quality performance that retains the atmosphere of the ERARO label. In the margin, the well-established Duruflé self-performed board is coupled. It is also a historical performance. Duruflé is SACD for the first time.
Since his first visit to Japan in 1989, Corvo has been a guest performer almost every year, especially at La Folle Journée, so I think many people have had the chance to see him perform. Despite his advanced age at La Folle Journée, he conducted energetically every time. Many people must have been impressed by his sincere approach to music. The figure that was described as "the god of choral conducting" was still alive until his later years. It was certainly a great pleasure during the exhibition to see Corvo conducting every year, and even now, I think it was a valuable opportunity. Fauré's Requime was also performed at the above music festival.
This Fauré is one of Corvo's representative recordings, which has been highly acclaimed internationally in the field of vocal and religious music. It is a well-known sound source and is a famous performance that was also made into SACD. Among the many recordings available today, it can be said that this Corvo board and the former EMI Cluytens board (released in June 2021 at TDSA194 of this project) are still highly rated historical masterpieces. It is difficult to make a general comparison because the approaches are different, but the control of the chorus is particularly wonderful on the Corvo board, and you can feel the sense of unity that is fused at a high level as a song, including the balance with the orchestra. Also, in this sound source, a boy soprano with a sense of transparency was appointed as a soloist and became very popular. Since then, his recording activities have become active, especially as he has gained international fame as a choral conductor, and he has left many recordings outside of ERARO. This performance will be listened to for a long time as a monumental sound source that greatly influenced his subsequent activities. I have re-recorded it several times since then, but this ERATO board is exceptional. In addition, this time it is a memorial board for Corvo, but in the margin, I have coupled Duruflé's self-produced board. Since it is a historically valuable performance with an ERATO sound source in the early days of stereo, I took it as an important opportunity to listen to it with high sound quality.
